Though it may be the most slept-on part of Dead Kennedys revolutionary back catalogue, 1986s Bedtime for Democracy could also be the bands most sonically extreme, politically feisty, tragically humorous and wildly eclectic release. The 21-song epic twists from a caffeine-crazed speed-through of outlaw country classic Take This Job and Shove It towards lysergic conspiracy theory jazz, Rambo-and-Reagan castigating punk and more. Thought-provoking, subversively screwy and often blisteringly fast Dead Kennedys wanted to make sure you were wide awake to the world around you before they put themselves to bed.
