While Deftones debut album Adrenaline impressed the alt-metal scene when it dropped in the mid Nineties, its follow-up full-length Around the Fur that made the Sacramento outfit full-blown icons. The slinking sludge riff Stephen Carpenter laces into opener My Own Summer (Shove It) is at the top of Deftones highlight reel, but Around the Fur further crystalizes their early aesthetic through codeine-glazed melodies, hypnagogic beats and the sensually menacing mic work of Chino Moreno. If you hadnt already, its time to shove a 180-gram, black wax repress of Around the Fur onto your turntable.
