For this 4th full length album, NAILS havechanneled raw emotion into tracks like ImposingWill, a seismic event in the realm of sonicaggression; igniting the pulse, and fueling a fire ofhostility. [This track is] special to the record inthat I knew we wanted it to be the opener,explains founder Todd Jones. We wanted it tohave the effect of an urgency; an immediacy in themusic itself. When you push play, you get smackedin the face.
Similarly, Give Me the Painkiller hints at anintricate groove while simultaneously causing theurge to peel your skin off. There exists a wildenergy that according to Jones is the bands mostexpressive guitar playing in their history. Plungeinto Punishment Map, and confront the decadesof misery brought about by Golden State serialkiller Joe D'Angeloa relentless descent into theabyss of human suffering. The guitar work onEVERY BRIDGE BURNING is an expansive force inits own right, epitomized in tracks like, No MoreRivers to Cross. Here, NAILS masterfully navigatesa spectrum of moods, showcasing fluidity and intensity that is quintessentially NAILS yet profoundly evolved.
The album artwork, a creation by Jeff Whitehead,serves as a visual prelude to the auditory chaosastark representation of the aural brutality thatNAILS delivers. I really wanted to work withWhitehead again, explains Jones. I wanted theartwork to represent the sound of NAILS visually,and to reference the same figure from our lastalbum cover.
The writing process for this album was no differentthan in record cycles of the past. The foundationsof songs are born from riffs, and it is around theseriffs that entire tracks are eventually composed.Our writing process is about building songs,explains Jones, not just sitting down and writingthem straight through all at once.
Recording for the album commenced inMassachusetts at God City Studio with Kurt Ballou(of CONVERGE), whose contribution is integral tothe NAILS sound, as elucidated by Jones: weverecorded every album with Kurt. Hes such animportant ingredient as to how we present ourmusic. When our fans want to hear NAILS, theywant to hear something that is through the filterof Kurts engineering.

This band was modeled after some of my favorite bands; the type of bands where, when they put out an album, you know what its going to soundlike, describes Jones, its the delivery of theexpectation.
