Geoff Mann – Underground (LP Vinyl)

Description:

On vinyl, Underground showcases bassist Geoff Mann's exploration of the spaces where jazz harmony meets funk pocketcompositions that reward both deep listening and involuntary head-nodding. The album features the telepathic interplay of musicians steeped in improvisation, creating instrumental landscapes that reference everyone from Weather Report to the Meters while maintaining a distinct contemporary voice. Mann's bass work anchors arrangements that shift from meditative to explosive without losing the groove.

Underground represents the kind of genre-fluid instrumental music that thrives in jam band festival culturecomplex enough for musicians to study, funky enough to fill dance floors. Mann's collaborators bring jazz credentials to funk settings, creating tension and release that feels spontaneous even when tightly arranged. The vinyl pressing captures the warmth and low-end presence that makes bass-driven instrumental music particularly rewarding on wax, with Mann's tone front and center where it belongs.
