Description:
Originally released in 1987 Bad was the third epic album from Michael Jackson which followed 1979's Off the Wall and 1982's Thriller. Moving away from soul and expanding his sound to incorporate rock and dance elements, Bad managed to spawn five top ten hits including the title track alongside Dirty Diana, The Way You Make Me Feel, Smooth Criminal and his third solo number one I Just Can't Stop Loving You.
"The era of Bad represented Michael's creative 'coming of age' as a solo artist in charge of every aspect of his career - from recording to touring to endorsements to merchandising," says John Branca and John McClain, co-executors of the estate of Michael Jackson.
Bad produced ten chart-topping singles, nine ground-breaking short films and to date, the Bad album has generated more than 45 million units in sales. Bad was nominated for six Grammys and won two; the album earned Michael the first-ever Video Vanguard Award at the MTV VMA Awards.
"This was the first album on which nearly all of the songs were written by Michael," says Branca and McClain. "It was also the first album in history to produce five consecutive number one singles and it took two-and-a-half decades for another artist to match that success."
